Traditional Craft Products Certified by the Governor of Osaka Prefecture
The production of farming baskets using high quality local bamboo commenced in the Nara era (8C). Along with the increasing popularity of the flower arrangement and tea ceremony in the early 17th century came the manufacturing of flower and charcoal baskets. By the mid-Edo era (18C), Osaka had become a production center for these items.
Today, lightly dyed baskets are produced primarily for use in flower arrangements and for serving food.
